Malaga the capital of the region,
exhibits geat devolution during Easter Week. All the
street of its neighbourthoods, from El Perchel, The
Trinidad, The Victoria, to those of Capuchinos, Molinillo,
Cruz Verde, Malagueta and Nueva Malaga, are covered
by the steps of the processions of each of the Brotherhoods,
accompanied by their members.
The visitors should not miss that of The Cautivo on
the Monday, the procession of the Virgen del Rocío
the following day, the impresionment of el Moreno,
known as the Christ of the Gypsies. On the Wednesday
of Holy Week, a prisioner is pardoned as part of the
ceremonies of Nuestro Padre Jesús Rico. The
canticles of the legionnaires who accompany the Cristo
de la Buena Muerte resound in the streets of the city
on Maundy Thursday, never miss the arrival of The
Legion to the port, the used to came at 11.00 o'clock
on a boat from Melilla. In other towns in the province,
Holy Week is also celebrated with intensity and fervour.
Alhaurín de la Torre is witness to the "rivalry"
that exists between "Los verdes" of El cristo
de la Vera Cruz and Los Moraos de Jesus del Paso.
It is worth going to Antequera on Maundy thursday
and good friday, where the local people run through
the steep streets of the town to shouts of "A
la vega!", while they try to avoid having their
throne captured. Menwhile, on good Friday and easter
Saturday, Riogordo becomes the setting for a lively
Passion, involving around 5 hundred inhabitants of
the town.
Finally, Holy Week in Velez-Malaga should not be forgotten,
where the images of Christ praying in the garden,
Jseus el Pobre and the Virgen de la Soledad set out
in procession.
