Malaga Restaurants
Come to me all of you who are suffering
with your stomach and I will restore you”. This was
the phrase that could be read above the door of the first-ever
restaurant. It was back in 1765 that A Boulanger, whose surname
translates as “baker”, opened a drinks establishment
in Paris that also served food.
At the time, only foodless taverns existed, where the “idle”
would gather together to enjoy the warmth afforded by good
wine. Boulanger, more concerned with doing good business than
with the health of his customers, had the ingenious idea of
offering them solid sustenance to fill the stomach, reduce
the effects of the alcohol and thus enable them to carry on
drinking.
It was a good arrangement, not only for Boulanger but also
for those who frequented the tavern, who could now satisfy
their hunger and cheer their spirit at the same time. Son,
his fellow tavern keepers, worried that their own businesses
would suffer, reported Boulanger to the relevant authorities.
However, he won his case and made his snacks more substantial,
creating a menu. A menu which initially featured just one
dish, a choice between sheep’s trotter soup or pork
with white sauce.
Little could Boulanger have imagined that the industry that
originated from his idea would turn drunks into diners.
The seeds of the restaurant trade have imagined that the industry
that originated from his idea would turn drunks into diners.
The seeds of the restaurant trade have proved especially fruitful
in the province of Malaga, providing aromas and tastes of
all types. For those who like to stroll the streets and work
up and appetite, a variety of tapas are available. For those
who prefer a seafood feast, the coast is teeming with beach
restaurants or Chiringuitos. More innovative palates can enjoy
the delight of creative cuisine, while those of a classical
ilk will delight at the traditional fare on offer at the homelier
establishments. Those in search of dishes that they cannot
pronounce will be in their element given the range of foreign
restaurants to be found here. For different folks, different
strokes, and for restaurants, the Costa del Sol.
