San Fernando Routes
The route of the little white towns meanders through the
various scattered across the rugged mountain sierra. Stop and admire the
typical white-washed, stone houses lining the narrow streets which are
so characteristic of this region, and take time out to visit the picturesque
medieval castles and churches. Grazalema Nature Reserve is a jewel to
be treasured on this route and is populated predominantly by the Pinsapos
pine trees, which is exclusive to this part of western Europe. The route
of the Little White towns begins in Arcos the most beautiful town in Europe,
according to azorín. A few short kilometres away is Grazalema,
then Ubrique, Setenil, Olvera…and a further 19 unspoilt white towns
just waiting to be discovered along the way.
The route of the fighting bull starting in jerez and ending in the flat
lands surrounding Gibraltar, this route passes through Arcos de la Frontera,
Los barrios and Tarifa. Following the route takes the visitor to the very
roots of this very typical and highly skilled art. Witness this very aristocratic
farming region with its rolling pastures and meadows and watch the bulls
themselves roaming free in the fields of the cattle farms.
The wine route passes through the renowned and unforgettable towns of
Jerez, Sanlucar, El Puerto de Santa Maria, Trebujena, Rota, Chipiona and
Chiclana. Each of which offers its own speciality and vintage wines. Many
of the wine cellars may be visited and offer the visitor the opportunity
to taste some of the best wines and to learn about the wine-ageing process.
The Atlantic route begins at San Lucar de barrameda and stretches all
the way along the coast to the very limits of the province of Cadiz, where
it joins the province of Malaga. In total, there are 260kms of beaches,
and a veritable treasure trove of discoveries to make along the way: enchanting
Arabic villages, the immensely impressive Roman ruins of the town of Baelo
Claudia and the splendidly sited viewpoints commanding magnificent views
of the Atlantic and the North African coast.
