Seville, with a surface area of 14,001 km2, is the
largest province in the region of Andalusia and has
105 municipalities, including the capital city.
The province boasts extensive natural and cultural
assets. Protected natural areas account for around
14 per cent of its total area, and it has 14 historical
sites and over 300 monuments. Its numerous craft industries,
festivals, fiestas and popular customs and traditions
form a rich cultural heritage.
The biggest towns in the province are Dos Hermanas
and Alcalá de Guadaira, both with a population
of over 100,000. At the other end of the scale, the
smallest villages are to be found in the Sierra Norte
y Sur, with scarcely 3000 inhabitants each.
The city of Seville has a total surface area of 142.44
square kilometres and is an average of 10 m above
sea level. It has 2,639,306 square meters of parks
and gardens. The old historical quarter of the city,
one of the biggest in Europe, has a high proportion
of parks and gardens.
