Seville University is a 'Public Law' institution,
which serves society and is inspired by the constitutional
principals of equality, liberty, justice and pluralism.
The university of Seville is dedicated to intellectual
and material development of the people, the defence
of the environment and of peace.
The embryo of the current University of Seville was
the School of Santa María of Jesus, founded
by Archdeacon Maese Rodrigo Fernández de Santaella
at the end of the fifteenth century.
In the middle of the twentieth century the University
of Seville moved to the `Real Fábrica de Tabacos'
building, built by the engineer Van der Beer during
the reign of Fernando VII.
