Guadalcanal

Between the Sierra del Agua and the Sierra del viento where Seville juts into Extremadura is the historic village of Guadalcanal.

Two sierras, then two landscapes: the escarpment and the plains, the olive tree and the live oak, suitable zones for rural tourism and to get away from the daily routine of the city. The traveller can hunt and fish, and among its outstanding attractions is its magnificent cuisine, with lamb stew being the star dish.

The archaeological remains from the Palaeolithic age in the caves of Santiago and San Francisco in Guadalcanal are remarkable.

The church of La AsunciĆ³n, from the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, built against an Almohade wall and upon the site of an Arab alcazar fortress is worth a visit. In order to enjoy these surroundings you are advised to attend the pilgrimage the last Sunday in Arpil. After the transfer to the hermitage of Guaditoca, the residents go on a picnic. This fiesta has been declared of National tourist interest in Andalusia.
